About a week after her daughter vanished, Pam Riley picked up the phone and heard something she has never been able to forget. Her daughter was crying. A man's voice said her name. Then the line went dead.

Who Was LaQuanta Riley?

LaQuanta Riley was 19 years old, an honors student who intended to study forensic science. Her mother, Pam Riley Boldin, describes her in three words: "caring, loving, and compassionate."

On the night of December 7, 2003, LaQuanta had just come from an argument with her college roommate. She stopped by her mother's home in Montgomery, Alabama, to grab a jacket.

December 7, 2003 — The Last Known Moment

LaQuanta's younger brother answered the door. He was confused — she didn't have a car, so how had she gotten there? She told him a friend she'd met "around the street" had given her a ride.

He watched her walk back outside to a dark green sedan — reported as either a Ford Taurus or a Chevrolet Caprice — idling out front, and get in. The time was approximately 11:30 p.m.

LaQuanta Riley has not been seen since.

The Voicemail

About a week later, Pam Riley received a voicemail. She has described it the same way in every interview she's given since:

"She was crying but she was either saying leave me alone or I wanna go home."

Pam says she could hear a male voice in the background say her daughter's name before the call disconnected. The call was never traced.

Pam has said plainly what she believes happened:

"Wherever she went, she didn't go to stay. Whoever she left with had no intentions of bringing her back."

A Mother Who Has Never Stopped

Since 2005, Pam Riley Boldin has hosted an annual candlelight vigil for LaQuanta in Montgomery — a tradition she has since widened to honor all of Alabama's missing. In 2016, she founded the Riley Relief Foundation, a nonprofit supporting other families of missing loved ones across the state.

"We want to make sure that their voices are heard," Pam has said, "and that we're not going to stop looking for them."
